Beijing Bookstore Mansion
Located in the northeast of the Xidan Crossing, Beijing Bookstore Mansion is the largest state retail bookstore. Noted also for being the largest bookstore in Asia and the largest Chinese bookstore in the world, it covers an area of 8,000 square meters. Beijing Bookstore Mansion has already set up business relationships with more than 500 publishing houses across the country. The task of stocking, selling, adjusting, and storing books is managed through a computer network.
The online bookstore of Beijing Bookstore Mansion opened on March 9, 1999 with about 150,000 titles of Chinese books which expand by 150 new titles each day.
Beijing Foreign Language Bookstore
The Beijing Foreign Language Bookstore offers one of the largest selections of foreign language books in Beijing. Located in the bustling Wang Fu Jing shopping area, this store has dictionaries, travel guides, maps, English novels, poetry, cookbooks, books on ancient and modern art, and many volumes of Chinese literature in foreign language versions. A good selection of The Lonely Planet Travel Guides can be found as well as Hong Kong English newspapers and some English magazines.

Wangfujing Xinhua Bookstore
As one of the major book sellers in Beijing, Xinhua Bookstore offers a rich collection of books including the novels, maps, Chinese literatures, dictionaries, etc. In addition, guidebooks for foreign visitors and books on Chinese tourist sites, culture, furniture and architecture are also available at the store.

Haidian Book City
Located in Haidian District, west of Beijing, where the majority of the student population lives and studies, the Book City provides the rich collection of books. Catch a glimpse of international culture at work with Chinese and foreign students filling out the floor space of the area's cafes and bookshops. The Haidian Book City opens daily between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Yansha Bookstore
In the east of the city, convenient to most city-centre hotels, the Yansha bookshop, on the fifth floor of the Lufthansa Shopping Center, offers history books on Beijing that double-up as perfect travel gifts. Take a look at: A Glimpse of Old China, China Pictorial Publishing House (180 Yuan); Celebrated Residences of Old Beijing (78 Yuan); The Invisible Palace, box set (180 Yuan). Around the corner on the ground floor, the Kempinski Hotel's bookshop at Liangmaqiao Lu has an exhaustive international travel book selection and some fascinating, inexpensive postcards of old Beijing.
